LOVE, JFK & HIP-HOP: The Journey of a Thousand Miles begins with the first step. So I wrote this deep thought personal ultimately uplifting song in 1996 as a punk rock song. It was recorded in Riverside CA with Paul Hampton (The Skeletones) as producer for our band TWISTED NIXON. For 2024, I re-imagined, re-composed, and even adjusted the chorus to make it super Hip-Hop Beyonce style groovin’
Oh, see if you can I.D. the famous passage from a speech given by PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY. It was the Commencement Address at American University, Washington, D.C., June 10, 1963. It was quite a famous speech. Nothing like mixing music with deeper messages.
Here I present it as a fantastic HIP-HOP song. So go sip your Cup of Jo and enjoy this groovin’ song. Just make sure you’re standing up cause you’re going to groove to this song. And that’s a promise!
ENJOY THE LIFE MON! Love and Peace! Signed, Johnny Punish
61 years ago on June 10, 1963, President John F. Kennedy visited American University to give the commencement speech for the class of 1963. Just 9 months prior, the United States and the Soviet Union had come perilously close to nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
As tensions cooled, President Kennedy wanted to open more dialogue with the USSR, and chose his speech at AU to give what he called “A Strategy of Peace.” During his nearly 27-minute address, Kennedy called for the development of a nuclear test ban treaty, pledging that the United States would suspend nuclear tests in the atmosphere so long as other nations did the same.
At the same time, he called for Americans to respect and understand the Soviet Union and its people, to remember their common history and sacrifices during World War II.
LYRICS
THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES
You talk talk talk about your dreams while you sip your Joe
Blame the dyke chick’s fame and fortune on the freak show
You say it should be you but you’ll never know
Got the gene that controls your mind keeps you low
Deep down high
You’ll never try
You know the truth
Of your youth
Now you feel the pain
Always thunder and rain
Cause daddy did dirty deeds
Left you with anger and need
For love
For love
For love
The journey of a thousand miles yeah
Begins the first step
The journey of a thousand miles
Step step step oh
So lift your feet and start moving and groovin’
Before you regret
Yeah
So listen up if you wanna make something of your life
Accept the blame that is the root of your strife
Take the bull by the horns and muster the gumption
Choose a vision and reject dysfunction
Can it be?
You’re not me
Or the chosen one
So have fun and stop worrying about
People that judge you without
Knowing your heart
Cause they’ll put you down
To make themselves be
Kings of the town
Of the town
Oh boy
The journey of a thousand miles
Begins the first step
The journey of a thousand miles
Step step step oh
So lift your feet and start moving and groovin’
Before you regret
Oh yeah
I have chosen this time and place
To discuss the topic of which ignorance too often abounds
And the truth too rarely perceived
Yet the most important topic on earth
Peace!
Peace!
It’s your time
And you can’t whine
Take a stand
For a chance
To reach humanity
And potential in da big sea
Find your destiny
Leave behind your legacy
Can’t you see?
It’s not me
Can it be?
Let it be
Awwwwwwwwwww
The journey of a thousand miles
Begins the first step (first step)
The journey of a thousand miles
Step step step oh
So lift your feet and start moving and groovin’
Before you regret (before you regret)
Oh yeah
A thousand miles
Oh oh oh
Take a step
Oh oh oh
Lift your feet
Oh oh oh
No regrets
It’s your time
