We are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet Earth

Michael Moore presents Planet of the Humans, a documentary that dares to say what no one else will this Earth Day — that we are losing the battle to stop climate change on planet Earth because we are following leaders who have taken us down the wrong road — selling out the green movement to wealthy interests and corporate America.

This film is a wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face:

that amid a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It’s too little, too late.

Director Jeff Gibbs

Removed from the debate is the only thing that MIGHT save us: getting a grip on our out-of-control human presence and consumption. Why is this not THE issue? Because that would be bad for profits, bad for business. Have we environmentalists fallen for illusions, “green” illusions, that are anything but green, because we’re scared that this is the end—and we’ve pinned all our hopes on biomass, wind turbines, and electric cars?

No amount of batteries are going to save us, warns director Jeff Gibbs (lifelong environmentalist and co-producer of “Fahrenheit 9/11” and “Bowling for Columbine”). This urgent, must-see movie, a full-frontal assault on our sacred cows, is guaranteed to generate anger, debate, and, hopefully, a willingness to see our survival in a new way—before it’s too late.

I watched all 1 hour and 40 minutes of this documentary. I agree with the fact that earth is overpopulated at 7.6 billion and that the current solutions for resources including energy are not sustainable or efficient. The premise is that the Green movement has been usurped by capitalism and will NOT be able to provide the solutions to meet the coming world that will have 10-12 billion by 2050.

I even agree that world leaders need to tell the truth that we must deal with population growth.

But in reality, based on human history, it’s more likely that humanity will grow too fast and be unable to control it ending up in a massive war for resources that will result in the suffering and death of billions.

Now, it’s not an il fait acompli. We can engage in population management on a global scale and we can continue to work on improving energy, food, and clean water resource technologies.

Both on the extreme right and left, they want absolutism. But that is completely silly. There will never be a world without oil and there will never be world with only oil. What is realistic is reducing the use of oil by 50% by 2050 making it still important but NOT all-encompassing. I believe if we do that and educate our populations to be part of a healthy future by having smaller families of 2 or fewer children we can avoid what will truly be the worst war in the history of the human species.

  1. Why is this (population growth) a problem in the US? Birth rates in the US have steadily declined since 1950; from 23 people per 1000, to 12 people per 1000 presently. The resulting population growth has strictly been immigrant driven (taking in other country’s excess populations.
Moore can point the finger at the wealthy or corporate interests, but any prescribed solution will be aimed strictly at the masses; what’s left of the shrinking middle class and the poor. Those solutions will come in the form of strict limitations on their freedoms; including travel restriction, to limits on family size, to restrictions on where you can, or cannot, live, to name a few, and it will be those same corporations making the rules.

  2. honestly speaking, above comments from Jhonny sounds like carefully choosen words, without addressing and pointing out the real reasons of the current problem, and without knowing the problem there is no way to solve it, and the movie might have the agenda to carry on same depopulation idea by bill & melenda foundation, (i havent seen the movie, in fact dont want to), why dont we go back and see 300 years history, not for blame game, but to see reality, for example colonism, i agree this is old, but if during the time of colonism progressed ruling nations, with looting the recources of native, would have educated them, but they didnt, later when empires were, where sun never sets, in a tiny island of powerfull the consumption was given rise, where other parts of their own colonies were dying with hunger, let alone talk about the reasons of 2 great wars, were financial, third world was and IS left retarded, for benefits and with conditions, in reality it is 3rd world where over population is issue, due to lake of education and recources, first world had and has issue of old age majority, after 2nd world war, and mass immigration was allowed to save the situation, of EU and USA, come on address to the point i can go on with 1000 more points adding banks and corporations but i think it is useless, being a human with morals, everyone knows the reality in these times,
